Diebenkorn at the de Young

Last week I had a chance to see the Richard Diebenkorn exhibit at the deYoung Museum.  Now, all I can think about is going to see it again.  It is up until the end of Sept.

Here are Richard Diebenkorn's , "Notes to Myself on Beginning a Painting",

 1.  Attempt what is not certain. Certainty may or may not come later. It may then be a valuable delusion.

    2. The pretty, initial position, which falls short of completeness, is not to be valued, except as a stimulus for further moves.

3. Do search, but in order to find other than what is searched for.

4. Use and respond to the initial fresh qualities, but consider them absolutely expendable.

5. Don't discover a subject, of any kind.

6. Somehow do not be bored, but if you must, use it in action. Use it's destructive potential.

7. Mistakes can't be erased, but they can move you from your present position.

8. Keep thinking about Pollyanna.

9. Tolerate chaos.

10. Be careful only in a very perverse way.

Gregory Kondos, at the Crocker Art Museum

I just had a chance to see the Gregory Kondos exhibit at the Crocker Art Museum.  His work is just beautiful, so huge, and impressive!  This exhibit will be up until May 19th.

The Crocker Art Museum's original building, the Crocker family mansion.

The new wing, recently added, that is connected to the original museum. This building is a huge, super modern , space that adds room for even  more exhibits.

A Little Break

I've been working on several larger paintings, which is a challenge for me. In the midst of these larger paintings, I've been taking little breaks, and doing some, 4 X 4, mini paintings, just for fun!
Instant gratification!  More to come!

Visiting, Page, in Puerto Vallarta

Just back from visiting the very talented, artist, and blogger, Page Railsback, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Page is lucky enough to be a part time resident, in the middle of this beautiful city.  She paints, and teaches, right here, during the winter months. Please see Page's fabulous paintings, on her blog, and website.

Brian, enjoying our time in beautiful, Puerto Vallarta.

Thrilled to be in the warm weather, seeing the sunny skies, blue water,  pretty white buildings, and
 romantic sunsets.
