On the Down Hill

Lately, I've been having fun with painting things on the edge. I recently saw some wonderful paintings by Jian Wang in a gallery in Carmel. Jian Wang does still life paintings of pieces of Chinese candy. The candy is shown on the edge of a table top, with beautiful shadows. His work inspired me to try using his composition. After going online to see more of his paintings, I read that he came from China to study with Wayne Thiebaud, which he did for many years. No wonder I like his work so much!

You are so inventive! Love the paintings on the edge. And your tomato stems - they aren't easy. Cool that the artist that inspired you was painting with Thiebuad - I love him too!

Nancy, Love the painting on the edge paintings. What a great job you're doing. Love the colors and brushstrokes in this one. Good reflections, too.

I like these tomatoes, Nancy - it makes me want to cook something or write down a recipe to go along with the painting!

I'm enjoying scrolling through all your work and especially these edge paintings with the 'geometicized' fruit (counting tomatoes as a fruit, which technically they are). Thanks for sharing your work.

PS Are you any relation to the Nancy Hartley in Alice Neel's paintings?
