These color wheels were done for the first assignment for Carol Tarzier's class. It seems like I have done many, many color wheels in the past. I am always amazed at how many colors can be made from just three colors. The top color wheel uses, cad. lemon yellow, alizarin crimson, and pthalo blue. The bottom one uses, cad. yellow, cad red, and ultramarine blue. The photo does not show an exact duplication of the colors, but you can get an idea. No matter how many times I have done this exercise, it's always fun, and I'm reminded of how many colors are just out there waiting to be used.

Hi, Nancy - would you believe that I did my first color wheel in my early 40s?? It was in beauty school - and the exercise was quite powerful. I truly realized how differently I see and experience color. The teacher came over and remarked how unusual my colors were - I said something like, "I'm sure everyone has these colors on their wheel." Until I looked at their wheels - most of theirs were so bland and very much pastel. Mine were - well, different, intense and unusual. I should take some sort of course in art - I think I might enjoy it!
SO TRUE!! A great exercise. Thanks for reminding us that we don't have to buy a million colors. We can mix them. Some exceptions are bright pinks which I use Grumbacher Thalo Red Rose for.
